That "Brownback Girl" -- is actually a guy. Bucky Walters is Wichita's own occasionally cross dressing comedian, and his latest roast is Kansas Senator Sam Brownback, running for the presidency in 2008. "It went so unbelievably smooth, I couldn't believe it," said Walters Tuesday night. But the reworking of Madonna's "Material Girl" wasn't Walters' material at all.

"In politics, all publicity is good publicity," said Phillip Brownlee, editor of the Wichita Eagle's Op-Ed section, and director of the music video. His department came up with the idea, shot it, edited it, and posted it on line.

KAKE has placed a link to the YouTube posting at the end of this article.Despite its classic one-liners, Brownlee hopes Brownback understands his home state's largest paper is not making fun of him. The idea actually stems from a recent cartoon featured in the Eagle, which mocked a growing number of on line videos poking fun at other candidates.

"It really is just a spoof of those videos," said Brownlee. "We're making fun of the Obama videos more so than the Senator. "Walters says he refuses to impersonate anybody he doesn't like. But he won't say if he really is a so-called "Brownback Girl," even if he does make a convincing church lady. "I always tell these people I wish I'm well enough known someday that somebody will make fun of me," Walters said. "And I hope when that happens, everybody will know who they're talking about."
