"Brownback Girl" parody making political headlines WICHITA, Kansas, Aug. 1, 2007 – Presidential campaign music videos have been all the rage this year. Now, Kansas Senator Sam Brownback has one of his own. It's titled “Brownback Girl,” starring local comedian and writer Bucky Walters. "I just thought it was a tremendous idea with all of the other girls getting all this attention, Obama girl and everybody,” Walters said. The video is the creation of Wichita Eagle's opinion editor Phillip Brownlee and editorial cartoonist Richard Crowson. It's a take-off on the church lady from Saturday Night Live. It's also a sign of the internet times. But is this comedic take on politics appropriate for an editorial board?
"It's not to make fun of Senator Brownback," Brownlee said. "We're fans of him, and we've endorsed him in the past. It's not about him as much as it's about having fun with the other candidate videos."Brownback's camp wouldn't comment on the video, but if he does become president, the creators of the video plan to cash in."We will get cabinet positions, secretary of videos," Brownlee and Crowson said. |
